We bought ?Bonnie-Jean? 2½ years ago off the internet from a dealer. After shipping her to Virginia,
we discovered in the trunk the original owners? manual, dealer sticker, dealer plates with original
California license plates, and the original Pontiac push button am/fm. The car was a little rough
but with very little rust. She came with all numbers matching hardware with a YS 400, 8-track, A/C ,
his & hers shifter, Quadra Jet, and the original California A.I.R. injector package hooked up and
working, courtesy of the Fremont Pontiac plant. The safety-track tag was still on the rear-end
housing! A real treat was the all the original owners? receipts and maintenance records.
One day after finally getting the car home from the paint shop, I called the number on the receipts
and sure enough, the lady identified her car and emotionally explained that she had ordered that
car new from Tate Motors in Ponoma, California late 1966. She & her husband had that car for 34
years! She and her family have really enjoyed the stack of photos I sent her after the restoration
was ?almost? complete. We are never really done, right?
Growing up as a teenager in the 60?s at my dad?s service station, I was thrilled every time a
muscle car rolled in for gas. Especially the GTO?s. I spent all my day-dreaming time thinking about
one day owning a real goat. A trance-like state would take control at every glance of one.
After 35 years of day-dreaming, ?Bonnie-Jean? now rests in my garage, still warm from a vigorous
day?s outing of cruising and feeling that muscle, And hearing that purring growl snap into a breath
taking, lurching roar with one slight punch on the pedal. (No one saw me lay that rubber).
